How are you planning to celebrate international women’s day?

I hate to admit this but…I spend most holidays the same way—working. But I will give the day my all, push through whatever obstacles are in my way, and meet my goals. Satisfaction in a job well done is a wonderful reward…and so are cupcakes. Yeah, I think I’ll go with the cupcakes.

Was there a woman who helped you get to where you are today?

100%, absolutely, no question.  My mother is the strongest woman I know.  Without her influence, I would not be where I am today.  All my life, she has loved me through my highs and lows, encouraged me to follow my heart, dropped everything when I needed help, and refused to coddle me when I needed a good, swift kick in the pants.  She taught me the value of honesty and showed me the importance of standing up for what I believe in.  The woman is a treasure—my treasure—and I wouldn’t trade her for all the money in the world.

What are your thoughts on the role of the media in shaping young female minds? As a creator, how do you combat some of these reductive and negative stereotypes that can lead to low self-esteem?

I remind myself that my worth is not based on how another person sees or treats me. I am who I am, and I look the way I look.  Opinions are subjective.  Some people will like me, others will not.  I can’t please everyone, and attempting to do so would be a waste of time.  I choice to live a life of love: loving what I do and loving others while I do it.

Tell us about your newest book?

Lifeblood is a story where this human life is a dress rehearsal and real life begins after death, where two realms are in power: Troika and Myriad.  These realms are at war.

With her last living breath, Tenley “Ten” Lockwood made her choice and picked where she will live in the afterlife. Now, as the war between Troika and Myriad rages, she must face the consequences.

Because Ten possesses a rare supernatural ability to absorb and share light, the Powers That Be have the highest expectations for her future—and the enemy wants her neutralized. Fighting to save her Secondlife, she must learn about her realm from the ground up while launching her first mission: convincing a select group of humans to join her side before they die. No pressure, right?

But Ten's competition is Killian, the boy she can’t forget—the one who gave up everything for her happiness. He has only one shot at redemption: beating Ten at a game she’s never even played. As their throw-downs heat up, so do their undeniable feelings, and soon, Ten will have to make another choice. Love…or victory.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

When you get knocked down—and you will—get up!  Do not ever stay down.  If you can’t walk, crawl.  Whatever you have to do, keep moving forward.

What book do you go back to again and again for inspiration?

I love scripture.  In the Bible, I find strength, support, help, love, comfort and so much more.  I know I’m not alone, I’ll never be alone, and I’ve got the Creator of the universe on my side.

What would you say to a young woman questioning her worth, value, or place in the world?

You offer something to the world no one else can: you.  Yesterday, today, tomorrow, you are the only you.  You are special, valuable, priceless.

Author Jill Monroe.  The woman has a heart of gold!  She’s brilliant, talented, witty and kind.  She gives of herself and her time without hesitation.  As Dr. Maya Angelou said: "Be a Rainbow in Someone Else's Cloud."  That is Jill.  She is a rainbow.
