Kobo in conversation with… Deborah Harkness and a few of her fans

Posted by Kobo Reads December  07, 2012

There’s nothing like a book club with good food, a little wine, great friends and engaging conversation.

And wouldn’t it be more fun yet if the author showed up to join you?

That’s what happened recently when Kobo staged a “Wine and Witches” event with superstar bestselling author Deborah Harkness. You may know Deborah as the author of two books of what will be the All Soul’s Trilogy, which follows the story of Diana Bishop, historian and reluctant witch, who finds a lost book of spells .

The idea springs from something that happened to Deborah in real life — she is a historian and researcher who studied magic and science in Europe from 1500-1700, and discovered a long-lost manuscript in Oxford’s Bodleian Library. But something  you might not know about Deborah  is that she’s also a wine connoisseur, and so we made sure the wine was flowing for this very special book club!

We held our event at L’Ouvrier, a wonderful restaurant in Toronto’s up and coming Dundas Street West area.

Deborah hanging out with some of the fans who love her books, including one of our merchandisers, Lyndsey:
