TORONTO, January 17, 2017 – Rakuten Kobo, a global leader in digital reading, is working closely with Exclusive Books, one of South Africa’s most beloved bookstores and cultural touchpoints, to transfer its eBook customers to the Kobo eReading service.
Exclusive Books has stopped selling eBooks directly from its site, but will continue to offer eBooks as a Kobo partner, directing its online customers to www.kobo.com. The digital migration of Exclusive Books’ customers will happen throughout January, after which time Rakuten Kobo will begin providing support for the digital libraries that customers have built on the Exclusive Books’ eBook platform*.
Kobo will ensure that current Exclusive Books’ eBook customers not only experience a seamless migration of their current eBook libraries to Kobo’s eReading service, but that they also have access to Kobo’s catalogue of more than 5-million titles.
“We want to encourage people to read more and are pleased to be working with Exclusive Books to offer digital reading to its customers,” said Michael Tamblyn, CEO, Rakuten Kobo. “We have been sharing our love of books in South Africa for more than four years now, and will ensure Exclusive Books’ eBook customers are able to continue enjoying, as well as expand, their digital libraries.”
“Our partnership with Kobo will allow us to concentrate on what we do best, namely, curating and selling the largest and widest selection of physical book titles in Africa,” said Ben Williams, GM: Marketing, Exclusive Books. “Meanwhile, working with Kobo will help us deliver a world-class eReading experience to our customers who prefer digital books.”
Exclusive Books will be sending its customers a series of emails with tokenized links, starting 17 January 2017, with instructions on how to easily transfer their libraries to Rakuten Kobo. They will have access to eBooks previously purchased at Exclusive Books, as well as new purchases at Kobo.com.
As of the transfer, Exclusive Books customers will be able to access their eBooks on Kobo’s E Ink eReaders and free eReading apps built for the most popular smartphones and tablets.
*Only applies to books purchased through the eBook section of the Exclusive Books website.
