Lindsey Kelk is a hugely popular author of the I Heart (insert name of fabulous city here) books, about a girl set loose in new places – a story line inspired by her own travels.
Lindsey’s latest book, About a Girl, is a witty story of a woman whose life could use a revamp. So, when she answers a call for her roommate, it becomes too easy to slip into her roommate’s life instead.
We caught up with Lindsey to ask her a few questions about her own life, and her reading life. Here’s what she had to say:
How is your summer going, what have you been reading?
It’s been good but hectic! I’ve been travelling a lot and writing my next book, I Heart Christmas, so there hasn’t been a lot of time for reading to be honest. When I have found five minutes to curl up with a book, I’ve been re-reading the old V.C. Andrews series (I’m far too excited about the upcoming Flowers in the Attic TV movie) and weirdly, some Shakespeare. I think my brain wanted a break!
You travel a lot. What are your favourite places?
I honestly love travelling and there’s always something awesome about everywhere. Baltimore wasn’t my favourite but still, interesting. If you’ve ever seen The Wire, it’s just like The Wire. Eek. I loved, loved, loved Hawaii when I visited to research About a Girl and Austin, Texas is one of my favourite places to unwind. One of my best friends lives in Toronto and it’s definitely one of my favourite cities, I could totally imagine living there. I’ve been spending a lot of time in LA lately. I like it so much more than I ever thought I would, it’s so laidback and I love the sunny weather. I really, really wish I could teleport, it would make my life so much easier.
Which of your heroines do you relate to more closely?
When I started writing the I Hearts series I was definitely more of an Angela but now I’m six books into that series, her life has gone off in different directions and she’s very much her own person. Right now, I’d definitely say I’m more of a Tess, the heroine in About a Girl. We have a similar sense of humour, we’re both very driven and we both make terrible romantic decisions! I’m really excited to write her next adventure and see what we’re up to.
What are you working on next?
I just finished I Heart Christmas which is out in November - so excited! So, I’ll be coming back over to promote that and in a month, I’m off to Italy to research What a Girl Wants, the second Tess book which is out next summer. Busy rest of the year coming up!
