Toronto, March 25, 2014Kobo, a global leader in eReading, today announced that its flagship E Ink eReader, Kobo Aura, and its 7” Google-certified Android tablet, Kobo Arc 7HD, have been recognized with the Red Dot: Product Design 2014 Award. The devices impressed a panel of 40 design experts, and were selected from 4,815 entries from 53 countries. This win complements Kobo’s growing list of design achievements, which include the Red Dot: Product Design 2013 Award for Kobo Arc, the German Design Award for Kobo Aura HD, and the Good Design Award for Kobo Glo.

“We’re honoured to have been recognized by the Red Dot panel of experts two years in a row,” said Pamela Hilborn, VP, Product & Design, Kobo. “Excellence in design is an essential part of what makes Kobo unique – it’s how we are able to create beautiful, user-friendly products that deliver the best eReading experience to the most passionate readers around the world.”

Prof. Dr. Peter Zec, initiator and CEO of Red Dot, on the decision process in the Red Dot Award: “Forty experts assessed the quality of the entries with the utmost care and attention. Due to their backgrounds, they also assessed the special cultural aspects of the designs from 53 countries. But only the best products receive an award from the jury. This is especially reflected in the percentage of successful entries in the Red Dot Award, which is much smaller in contrast to other international design competitions. Therefore, the winners can be proud of their achievements – with their entries, they stood out from the rest and were able to pass the test in front of the critical eyes of the experts. This success will be perceptible during the Red Dot Gala, when the laureates will receive the recognition of the international audience.”

The Red Dot Awards ceremony will take place on July 7, 2014 in Essen, Germany. In addition, the Kobo Aura and Kobo Arc 7HD will be on display in the Red Dot Design Museum, located in Essen, as part of a four week special exhibit.
