TORONTO and MEXICO CITY, September 30, 2015 – As the book industry continues to evolve, so do the ways in which passionate readers want to enjoy their favourite books. Further expanding on customer offerings, two of Mexico’s most prestigious book retailers, Libreria Porrúa and Gandhi, today officially unveil Orbile – a joint partnership and new service powered by Rakuten Kobo, offering a full-service eReading solution for the Mexican market. The eReading service will be available to Mexican readers through Libreria Porrúa and Gandhi – both in-store and online – on October 22.

Orbile will offer a localized eBookstore curated for the Mexican market with the best Spanish language eBooks, within a global catalog of 4.2 million, which will include titles such as Lo que no te mata te hace más fuerte by David Lagercrantz, Una pasión rusa by Reyes Monforte, and A flor de piel by Javier Moro. Readers will be able to peruse a wide variety of bestseller lists, curated recommendations across all genres, best-of-the-month, and seasonal suggestions, receive great personal recommendations based on their reading preferences, and will be able to use Kobo’s powerful search engine to find even the most obscure titles available.

“The focus of our partnership is singular – the reader and nothing else. As such, we have created a digital world for people who put reading at the centre of their lives,” said Michael Tamblyn, President, Rakuten Kobo Inc. “Our mission of encouraging more people to read more often continues with the new Orbile platform, created by two of Mexico’s most prominent booksellers. Together, we are committed to bringing the best eReading experience to Mexico, and throughout all Latin American markets.”

In addition, Kobo’s award-winning eReading devices will be available online and in-store at Porrúa and Gandhi bookstore locations across the country. Customers will have three options to choose from: the Kobo Glo HD for $2,699.00 MXN, the waterproof Kobo Aura H2O for $3999.00 MXN, or the Kobo Touch 2.0 priced at $1,799.00 MXN. For those wanting to read on devices they already own, the free Kobo Orbile eReading app will allow customers to access and read from their libraries anywhere, anytime, on any iOS or Android device.

“As industry leaders, Porrúa and Ghandi have established a long-lasting reading culture in Mexico, and today we are thrilled to be expanding on our country’s love of books. Orbile represents something completely new in the market – the joining together of two powerful brands to create the best possible experience for booklovers to read and to find that next great book digitally,” said Alejandro Borrego, CEO of Orbile. “Orbile enables customers to access an entire universe of eBooks instantly, as well as carry their entire libraries with them wherever they go. We believe reading improves people’s lives, and we will continue to work diligently to offer passionate readers with stories we know they will love.”

  • Carry an entire library in the palm of your hand – with 4GB of onboard storage, gone are the days of having to decide which books to take on vacation or on the daily commute.
  • Various font options allow for a highly-customized reading experience: with 11 font styles, 48 size options, as well as exclusive weight and sharpness settings, readers will be able to find exactly what is comfortable for them.
  • People can read for days without needing to charge their eReader with a battery that lasts up to two months (based on 30 minutes of reading per day with both the ComfortLight and Wi Fi turned off).
  • Discovering new eBooks is made easy with on-device recommendations based on readers’ activity and preferences. Reading Life also gives people the ability to take notes, highlight text, make bookmarks, and track statistics to learn more about their own reading habits.
